Prickly Ball Farm Prickly Ball Farm will re open for 2009 season on 1st April
It is spring now and all the hedgehogs are waking up and will be getting amorous! Some of you will be luckly enough to be kept awake with the night time goings on when boy hedgehog meets girl. All the hedgehogs will be very hungry when they wake up so anything you can do to build up their energy so that we see lots of babies after a month or so! Remember not to use slug pellets as they will reduce your hogs and your garden birds. Dried or tinned cat or dog food (not fishy variety) will be suitable food, a few mealworms as a treat, scraps of chicken, scrambled egg (no milk or butter added!).... all of these will help keep your hedgehog going . If you want help e mail me and I will do what I can. Our large family of 7 hedghogs have just gone back to Cornwall after wintering with us. We started with 8 of them but unfortunately we lost one, but as it was our only casualty over the winter I think we've done really well. They came in at approx 100 grams and have gone out with most of them weighing between 600 and 700 grams, so they have a good start to finding their new home. They have been released where they came from and the family feed lots of hogs all year round and are rewarded by having lots of visitors every night. You can do this too!
